ING designed this “cooling tower replacement” project to address multiple Owner concerns. The 600-ton condenser water system was not sized to handle the full capacity of the 800-ton chiller plant. In addition, the undersized cooling tower yard and the masonry security wall did not allow for sufficient air circulation. These factors led to poor performance and pre-mature aging of the cooling tower.
Our design team, plus our civil, structural and electrical consultants, engineered a solution that addressed each of these concerns. The result was an enlarged cooling tower yard with a louvered security wall that matched the latest campus standard. A different style cooling tower, with a smaller required footprint, was used to meet the capacity requirements, while minimizing the growth of the cooling tower yard.
